Picked these up the other day, the tallest, 5 inches is marked Stuart ( 1930s-50s ) but what is this type of decoration, it feels slightly raised ??? ;D
-
Acid etched with a "needle". Check with a strong loupe. If you can see hesitations in the lines, it was done by hand like the glass I showed on FB the other day
-
Thanks Christine, had a look with a lens and it's not actually raised but 'cut' into the glass, needle etched then ! ;D ;D
-
You can normally test for in-ies and out-ies on surfaces with the tip of a fingernail.
It either comes to a halt on something raised, or dips a little into something more intaglio. :)
The tip of a fingernail is also good for testing for age-related wear that cannot be seen on a tiny base ring.
(By "tiny base ring", I mean the actual bit of the base that makes contact with a surface. It doesn't always all make contact.)
-
I'll remember that,ta, in-ies and out-ies are types of belly buttons I thought !
-
Words can be flexible. ;)
-
Hence their ability to deceive! :-)
-
;D Well spotted.

All I need to know now is...who are Dolly, Lillian & Jack ? ;D ;D
-
Dolly was a very famous sheep.
Lillian is my next-door neighbour and Jack was my parents' next-door neighbour.
sorted. 8)
-
I can understand the neighbours but what would a sheep want with a tumbler ? ::) ;D ;D
-
Dolly was a bit "genetically modified". You never know what she might have been up to. 8)

Ok, I give up Dolly's tumbler it is ! ;D ;D
