Title: Need maker ID on vaseline/uranium red apple
Post by: mrvaselineglass on August 17, 2006, 02:27:11 AM
Hello all
this is an unmarked apple that looks red in daylight, but has a layer of vaseline glass over the outside.  The vaseline (uranium) glass layer also has gold flecks in it, and a controlled bubble pattern, almost like the seeds on a strawberry, but it is shaped like an apple, with an apple leaf and stem.
Any help on the maker would be appreciated.

Might be Barovier, but I've never come across a piece in Uranium glass, not that that rules out that option. Could also be Barbini, but I'm sure either Laura or Javier will be able to pin it down.

Not to pick on Max, but I don't know why a site giving a dubious attribution of Barovier, without any evidence, would be given any consideration.

I've never seen anything like it from Barovier, nor can I remember seeing any vaseline glass by Barovier.  With Murano vaseline glass, the usual contenders are Salviati and Cenedese.  I've never seen a piece of fruit exactly like this, so I don't know which way to vote.  Sorry.

I didn't read the initial posting properly and catch the word vaseline.  I thought the body looked Barovier-ish and then found the site.

Some of us aren't experts ya know, but do our best with what we have.  :D

Max, I know that. I tried to word it in such a way that it wouldn't sound disrespectful to you.  Sorry that it didn't come out right.

Awww thanks Laura, I appreciate that.  I'm a fragile flower underneath the bluster.    xx

MrVaselineglass, did you keep a note of what that label in the auction said ? The auction itself is long gone. Ed.
