Hi,I picked these two green trumpet stem wine glasses this morning and I wonder if they ring a bell with anyone, they are 145mm ht and 80wd with nicely polished pontils and a nice ring. They are thinly blown with obvious striations and one has a small inclusion,I think they maybe around the turn of the century, but I'm not sure.Any thoughts thanks.

Just a thought they have a look of Whitefriar's sea green color ..
-
That's what I was secretly hoping for before I got them home, but I'm not sure it's the same sea green as Powell/whitefriars,it seems a tad lighter, maybe a bit brighter?
-
I don't think the green is Uranium, is the bowl clear or green too?
I did find a "Green Goddess" glass once, it looked very much this shape and style, but the bowl was clear (with the logo printed on) and the foot and stem Uranium.
-
It's all the same coloured glass, stronger where it's thicker with the bowl itself thinly blown. It doesn't seem like Uranium, but I'll do a test.
-
Quite possibly the only connection would be period and style. :)
I've found a link to a pic of some.

The shape goes back quite along time I think, one of the things about them is the wide foot which is also thin.
-
:) I was clutching at straws, obviously. Sorry.

Clutch away Sue,they really could be anyone and it's better than the sound of wind swept tundra.

I agree that they have a Whitefriars look. Whitefriars did make this shape: the 8317 suite shown in forties catalogues (See: https://whitefriars-glass.com/resources/p3740.jpg for example) , but so far I've only found reference to flint (i.e. colourless) production. The height is correct too as 145mm is approximately 5 3/4 inches which is the given height for the claret glass in the range.
That said, I'm sure many firms made this form so I'd stop short of definitively attributing them to Whitefriars.

Thanks for showing that ,interesting.

Hi. For me, the way the stem and foot look to be joined spoils the overall aesthetic - in the photograph it looks a bit crude, being just a random size blob of glass. On higher quality glasses I would have thought this would be neater, maybe blended, formed into a small basel knop or faceted/cut (as my photos show).
If these were mine I would think they were work a day glasses that pre-date the use of the gadget. After that, if they had gone to the trouble of using the pontil rod and polishing the scar, then I would have thought there would be a better finish at the stem attachment. Obviously I may be wrong! Not sure how this would tie in with the colour and any Whitefriars connection but I assume Whitefriars would be high quality all round.

...or is that the pontil scar that you can see through the top of the foot?
-
Yup,it's the polished Pontil you see
-
The second image of the Pontil gives you a good look at the stem joining the foot.

Here's a better image of the foot
