Title: Mdina or Mtarfa help required
Post by: chasdevlin on April 14, 2019, 09:32:31 PM
Hi
I've  acquired this vase which superficially looks like Mdina ( it is unmarked). However the glass is very thick walled, cased and heavy compared to other Mdina pieces I've had. I've read on here that that is a sign of Mtarfa..?
It also has a slightly hexagonal, panelled body.
It's 5 and a half inches high. 3 anda half inches diameter across the rim.
Any ideas - thanks.

I'd go with Mdina but someone will probably correct me later  ::) ;D ;D

Absolutely Mdina. ;D A pattern of chevrons called "Roman". Not one of Michael Harris' designs, probably produced some time in the late'70s into the mid-'80s.

Mtarfa is no thicker or heavier than Mdina.  :) The tell between them is the execution of the design and the shapes.

Thanks. I really should've known better given I'd already asked about the Roman pattern on another piece! But it was the heaviness of the glass that threw me and reading something about this being a Mtarfa characteristic.
Thanks again everyone.

It's a Mdina characteristic too. Not a way of telling them apart. I really suspect what you read is wrong.
