Hello, I wonder if anyone cane help with identifying this interesting paperweight with an interesting blue lady cane.
It seems to have a lot of age to it.
Thank you for your consideration.
Kind regards Alan

Bacchus did a queen victoria silhouette and the canes look similar, might be worth trying them up,I don't know if anyone tried to copy them?

We need some help from Alan (tropdevin) on this. He has researched "women's head" canes. :)

Something deep in my memory makes me think I read somewhere that the square bun heads like this one were by Gillinder, but I can't find it in my books. It may be in an article saved to my desktop pc, if I get chance I'll check tomorrow.

On the link I gave, if you read the right hand column it talk about the ladies with the buns and says the square bun was Gillinder I believe.
I was just linking to the info re the square buns :) I don't know anything much about paperweights, but remembered reading that information.

Hello , I did read a reply that someone mentioned using UV light to identify if the glass was lead glass and I thought it might be a good idea to take a photograph of this paperweight using UV light.
It looked very interesting, and I thought it might help identify the canes.

KevH uses short wave uv to help him decide between different lead contents of Ysart weights, I don't know if it's relevant to other makers, and the short wave UV is not the sort you get with normal UV lights - you need a much more expensive and complicated sort of thing.
However, it looks as if the yellow glass used in the yellow canes might contain uranium. ;D
They are glowing green. It might just be a lot of manganese decolourant, but I don't think that's too likely.
That might help, a little bit, with id too. :)

Not quite! :)
What I do is check for a blue fluoresence reaction (using a shortwave uv light). If a likely Ysart / Vasart Ltd / Strathearn weight reacts blue, then (all other things looking right) I am satisfied it is either by Paul Ysart from his Caithness years or it is Vasart Ltd (1956 - 1964) or it is Strathearn (1964 to 1980).

Thanks for making your identification help trick clear Kev.
I wasn't exactly sure of the details. I tried to be vague enough to cover that up. :-[ ;D
