Title: Identify this Vase/Sculpture probably made of Murano's Glass
Post by: matteo_ferri86 on May 27, 2019, 03:08:42 PM

Good afternoon at everyone!
I have in my house this really big (48cm of height, 28cm of width, 18cm of depth and 12kg of weight) and beatiful vase/sculpture made of coloured glass. My family bought it in the early 90’s, from an antique dealer of a little city near the sea, in Tuscany. Probably it is made by Murano glass, but there isn’t any sign or mark on it, and probably it was made in the 20’s/30’s, because this kind of item looks like to the works of the Art Deco/Art Nouveau period. These are all the informations that my family tells to me. So, someone, kindly, could help me with other informations about the author/maker, the provenience/origin and the period of this object?

And another welcome from me.  :)
Murano isn't my area, but I do think this is a lot later than the deco/nouveau period. I'd put it after the beginnings of Studio Glass, and so mid-60s at the very earliest imaginable, but personally, I'd think nearer the '80s.
it's a serious piece!
Have you checked it in ultra violet light, (or even just bright sunshine) to see if it glows green and might contain Uranium?

I thought Mdina initially,  but the bright yellow didn't feel right to me.  Looking again at your pictures, I wonder if it could be the lighting affecting the colour.  Could you look at some of the google images for Mdina Ochre glass and see what you think?

I'm sure the real Mdina experts will weigh in soon!

If Mdina, it would be very new, and unlikely to fit in with the time it was bought.  ???
However, I'm not really up on their new stuff. (anything after mid-'80s) They did use an acid yellow splodgy design with millifiori bits in, in the '90s, with plastic labels, but I've only ever seen small things.
