Title: who and when was this wine cooler/ice bucket made?
Post by: guest14107 on July 18, 2019, 10:27:30 AM
Hi, is this a wine cooler/ice bucket? when and wher do you think it was made please? it stands 12" tall it has a lot of wear to the base but the soda glass does not help that show up.  It has a deep rough pntil mark with acid and wheel etched decoration.

Have seen people advertise one likes this as 1780 but not convinced of this age, any advice?

I suspect it is either contemporary or recent but have no proof, I have seen that same design a couple of times. I wonder if it is related in some way to this stuff with the engraved fishermen which crop up fairly regularly:

Take any suggestion of 1780 with a massive pinch of salt.

It might be a grape washer (in German, traubenspüler)?

It reminds me of the gondola-like boat stuff in the link John posted - my very first thought. Then looking at the pics, I can see it's the correct shade of green. I can't see eny evidence of age-related wear on the base, but that might just be the pics.
But I really don't think it has any good age either.  :'(
