Title: Can anyone supply any details about these Dartington Glass candle sticks

Hi hope someone can help.  I found this pair of Dartington Glass textured obelisk candle sticks.  Marked on the base with an acid etched D which I believe dates them to between 1967 and the mid 1980's when it became Dartington Crystal.  I also believe that during that period the chief designer at Dartington was Frank Thrower but I've not seen anything of his that resembles these.

I believe these to be handmade as they are very slightly different sizes and the textured pattern and interior bubbles are different on each candle holder on all sides.

One of the holders measures just over 15.5 cm tall and just over 3.5 cm square at the top and 6 cm square at the base.  This weighs 1.135 kg.

The other holder measures 16 cm tall and about 3.5 cm square at the top and just over 6 cm square at the base and weighs 1.135 kg.

The base of each is smooth and polished.

The etched mark is 1990s according to Mark Hill

I'm pretty sure that is inaccurate. I don't even think the second mark is Dartington. Acid etched is also unlikely from this period

Definitely inaccurate, otherwise generally an excellent resource that site. I have never seen any of the production from the late 60s, or 1970s with a mark, I don't know when they started with an acid etched mark but it was in use in the 90s. Several variations including a D and Dartington have been used since.

Thanks - I think it's safe to say these are not as early as I thought and definitely nothing to do with Frank Thrower.  Anyone aware of any Dartington collectors clubs or similar I could try to get some more information from

On the off chance I've contacted Dartington directly to see if they could help and they've immediately got back to me.

We can confirm this is the Cleopatra Large Candlestick LG758 - from the Cleopatra Range which came in 3 items, the large candlestick, a clock and smaller candlestick. This was designed by Jane Beebe in 1991 and has been discontinued for several years now.

I think that answers all the questions.
