while buying several pieces of lighting today near Bolzano I spotted this vase that cost me less than my lunch ;D
are these bigger bubbles also bullicante? I saw a post online where the smaller bubbles were referred to as bullicine
I found another very similar vase on Etsy that was claimed to be Barovier & Toso fluted gold fleck bullicante glass vase
https://www.ebay.ie/itm/HUGE-vintage-1940-Murano-Barovier-Toso-fluted-gold-fleck-bullicante-glass-vase-/123757991964
however the vase I have is better looking but smaller at 5.5 wide x 6 inches tall

Jon..... Can we see the base please 😹
Can't rule out Seguso or Formia just yet. You may have seen my large ribbed vase

Once I really got into the research, I started to see some questionable attributions. Very few signed or labelled pieces either.
I can see why you bought it!

On the other hand, I think yours is the back left of this group of 5 pieces attributed to Barovier & Toso by an auction house. Tallest piece next to "yours" is 6.5" high, which makes it look about right for the size of yours. Both pieces have 12 ribs.

great info thanks and my vase does look almost identical to the one in your auction link
funny that one side of my vase is slightly taller than the other and if you look at the flutes on an angle, they appear to be clear

These pieces are cased in clear glass.
-
I read about a piece being "cased", sort of like adding a clear coat after painting something
will clear casing be the most common or are other colours used often as well?
one of my favourite lighting pieces, I believe is clear cased, usually these large Murano type globes with the swirls are relatively thin but this piece has at least triple the thickness of the average globe
the base seems to be white, then there was a red swirl added on top and then it might have been clear cased?
I will post in another thread

You will find a lot of information about glass on the Corning museum of glass website.....a great resource. Here is their definition of casing
https://www.cmog.org/glass-dictionary/casing
There are also videos of glass blowing.
If you can access Netflix, the series "blown away" shows many of techniques you'll come across and is also fun to watch.

I've got a piece very similar ...another colour ...Barovier ;)

it is a classic design
