Title: Timo Sarpaneva - Sweden - 1950
Post by: sectioned106 on September 07, 2019, 07:22:30 AM
Hi

Does anyone know whether Timo Sarpaneva (TS) was:

1. Studying or designing/producing blown glass in Sweden at any point during 1950?

OR

2. Exhibiting any of his glass designs in Sweden during 1950, possibly representing the company Karhula-Iittala, (assuming some publications are correct that he started working for the company in 1950 rather than others which refer to a year later).

In respect of exhibiting, I know there was a 'Swedish Industries Fair' at the Swedish Exhibition Centre in Gothenburg from 20-29 May 1950 where companies from other Nordic countries were invited to exhibit for the first time. There may also have been an annual international consumer goods fair in Stockholm in 1950. However, I don't know if glass companies exhibited at these fairs, particularly Iittala/TS.

Thanks.

I presume you've looked at the Wikipedia article on him and checked out the references at the foot of it in case they lead you to more information? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timo_Sarpaneva

Not sure if this is of any help.
In the book, Timo Sarpaneva : a retrospective, march17-june18, 1994. Published by the American craft museum. Under the section Selected solo exhibitions in 1957 he
had a exhibition of woven Karelia interior design fabrics in Stockholm.
In the selected group exhibitions, 1955 there is an exhibition titled H-55,Finnish section, Halsingborg.
I can have a look and see if I have any more information about this subject.
Good luck in your quest,
Tim
