Title: Mystery smoked heavy bowl vase - Walther lookalike
Post by: chasdevlin on September 15, 2019, 09:49:09 AM
Hi
I  picked this up recently and thought it may be of good age, but am now worried it might be contemporary. It's of a smokey brown colour and has quite a lot going - applied decoration, recessed ovals. It seems to have characteristics of pressed glass and hot worked glass, perhaps it's both.
I find it quite striking anyway so I'd love to find more. It most resembles pieces in the Walther Irene range as seen in here: https://www.glas-musterbuch.de/VEB-Sachsenglas-1954.177.0.html. But there are differences that rule it out.

It's 6 inches/ 15 cm in height and about 8 inches across the top of the vase/bowl. All or any ideas welcome!

I forgot to say it weighs 1.2 kg and has a good ting when tapped!

Not a design I recall seeing anywhere in my catalogue trawling Chas.

Thanks Anne. I'm beginning to think it's quite modern.

It doesn't strike me as being very modern to be honest, Chas. I'd put it anywhere between 1945 and 1965-ish based on its style, but you never know till we find the catalogue. ;)
