Title: paperweight door handle slab
Post by: malcmat on September 29, 2019, 02:43:14 PM
I have acquired this huge paperweight door handle slab and  told it was from the 1950s and fitted to the front doors of an old building.
Its 9 inches long x 6 3/8 inch wide x 1 1/4 inch thick with a G F label on the base.
My question is are the canes Avem ?
Many thanks

Hi there,

Yes, these are AVEM canes. In fact, AVEM was known for making huge 'Tutti Frutti' paperweights that resemble your example.

So I would discard the Galliano Ferro label because this item has nothing GF about it.

I like the idea of having this on the front door of a building. Great door handle.

Thanks Sophie as I suspected re the label. I was informed by the seller there were a pair of these attached to a town hall door in Yorkshire around the 1950s ish and then were removed at a later time for refurbishment of the building.
Many thanks
