Hi Tony.  Would you be able to rub the signature with some cocoa powder, or cinnamon, for example, and take another picture?  It should help bring the signature out against the background.

Could you please add a photo of the whole item please, Tony, as this can help with pinning down the maker.  The word looks like murrine, which something like b in front of it... but "Murrine (singular: murrina) are colored patterns or images made in a glass cane that are revealed when the cane is cut into thin cross-sections" (Wikipedia) so it doesn't help much if that's what it says.
