Title: unusual coloured CELERY vase for id please.
Post by: Paul S. on October 28, 2019, 04:24:23 PM
not your average celery, and it was only by the greatest of chance when cleaning it that I spotted the word - a little below the rim - but if you read here ….  https://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,20233.msg115408.html#msg115408  ……   particularly the late Bernard Cavelot's contribution, all becomes light, and I do recall us talking some years back about the use of this word to avoid certain aspects of U.K. Purchase Tax.        I think someone was kidding though with this one - I've seen some celeries over the years but this is taking credulity a tad too far, but have to say it's a bit more attractive than most celeries.
In view of Bernard's comments, then reasoning would suggest this was pre 1940, but I've really no idea.          Bubbles wise, the appearance is like many bucket shaped pieces from pre 1950 - made in many countries - but despite having a roam through my books nothing rang a bell.
Height is 7.5 inches (about 190 mm) - heavy and with a quality base and depression, plus some good wear.            thanks for looking. :)

Interesting, not a clue here, according to Bernard could be up to 1970 too.

yes, I should have read to the end  -   so quite possibly later than I was thinking, and certainly a lot different to celeries from the 1940/50s and earlier, which were mostly simply plain clear glass.
It was only £3 from this morning's walk, and better I buy than not, and get home and discover it was rare and valuable - and gone when I returned. ;)

What an unusual celery vase, Paul! I've only seen pressed glass ones before, none with this bubble appearance. Perhaps Nigel Benson could help with it?

thanks Anne  -  I'm open to anyone helping with this one :)      Like you, I've seen mostly pressed examples, though the odd cut example does exist, but one with colour and bubbles like this is definitely a new one on me.
