Just arrived ;D ;D the colour is 'Celestial Blue' the name is 'Kyoto' 16 inches tall, with aventurine, all I need now is a shade ! ;D ;D
-
Nice one Keith
-
Thanks Christine ;D ;D
-
This really justifies the space it occupies. :-)
It's good when you can combine a really fabby bit of glass with something practical. ;D
You do need to find a good and proper shade for it to set it off sympathetically.
I know you and Linda have considerable artistic talents - have the two of you thought about designing and making your own lampshade for it?
Basic frames can be bought, (or they certainly could be in the '70s. ;D )
Or even looking for a good basic shape in a charity shop and re-doing it?
Lampshades are a nightmare. Very few are well designed.
I think this base needs a shade which has oriental inspiration. :)
-
That's a thought, maybe a Hokusai painted onto a plain shade ? thanks Sue ;D ;D
-
You're clearly inspired already!
You'd have to balance the image with the busyness of the base, but I have every confidence you would get it all absolutely right and end up with something much better than anything you'd ever be able to find. ;D
-
Already doodling ;D ;D
-
And I bet your doodle is of "The Great Wave off Kanagawa". It would be perfect for the lamp.
-
Do like my Japanese wood block prints, wish I had that one ! ;D ;D
-
Looks like there is a third spontaneous vote for the Great Wave. ;D
-
Have started already ;D ;D
-
Thought I'd show my attempt....
-
Looks lovely Keith
-
Thanks Christine ;D ;D
-
Wow! It looks super, Keith!
-
Thanks Anne, looks rubbish when the light is on ! ::) ;D ;D
-
Excellent interpretation, Keith.
Good pyjama striping to the waves and mount Fuji. :)
-
Thanks, not painted much in recent years maybe I'll start again. ;D ;D
-
Love it! Is there no end to your talents Keith? When I first saw the base/shade combo, I didn't realise you had painted it.......just thought "wow.....what a perfect match". Awesome.
-
Looks great! Well done Keith!
-
Thanks all, think my head has grown a little ::) ;D ;D
-
It is still looking positively perfect, Keith. ;D ;D ;D
Not just the right image, and not too busy or too plain, but you've got everything all balanced with the base.
(I've been away for a few days, but I got a sneak preview before I went.)
-
Thanks Sue, good day out ?
-
Yes indeed. :)
I saw, hugged and chatted with folk I don't get to see, chat to and hug nearly often enough.
And to share glassie stories and enthusiasm around glass in full three dimensional reality was pretty much heaven.
A few bodies were not there and I missed those, :'( but I managed to have a wonderful time with the ones that were. 8) :-* 8)
-
I'm still thinking about your lampshade. :)
Would a heavy layer of white paint inside help?
Or trying to muffle the light coming through with a combination of a thick gauze (something such as the sewing stiffening stuff you get for reinforcing cuffs, collars and lapels) and/or more white paint?
-
There's an idea, will think on that ;D ;D
