Hi.
Anybody have a idea who the vase? Sculpture? Is by.
Well made piece with embossed star pattern, polished base and offset opening.
Weighs over 2kg. Seems someone’s gone to a lot of trouble making this.
Thanks.

:)
I can't work out which way up it should be. Did your photos end up sideways?
-
Yes I think something went wrong.
-
When you say the pattern is embossed, what does you mean, exactly? :)
I once had a vase that had had a repeated logo (of a stick man) etched into it, then subsequently enamelled black in the dips.
Is this like that, or are the stars added on top?
How has it been satinated? Acid or sandblasting? (it looks as if it might be quite fine, - acid?)
I can't really make out how the surface was achieved. :)

Hello.
By embossed I mean the the pattern of the stars stands proud from the piece, bit like smooth prunts ( if that makes sense)
Yes a acid finish as if very fine.
Thanks Sue.

Don’t know if this might help.
-
It does. :) I can see at least one star standing proud, with soft edges.
But now I don't know if the edges are soft because they were melted, or because they were acid treated! Or perhaps both?
I haven't a clue what it might be, I'm afraid. But I really wanted to see how it has been made.
It's clearly something good. ;D I think it might even be quite new.

Hello Sue.
Yes, I suspect it is a modern piece but the person I who sold it to me said “they had it quite a while” (could have been a week 😀)
Thank you for taking your time to have a look.
Cheers
Nigel.

Folk do have different perceptions of time. It's often how food gets burnt. ;D
What does it look like with a low energy light bulb inside?
Could it be designed to be a (unique!) comforting, soft nightlight, for a child?
-
The hole is too small to fit a bulb into it. Don’t know got me stumped.
Thank you.

I suspect this a fairly modern piece that was a blue over clear and then sand blasted to leave just the blue stars. It's as simple as putting adhesive backed star cutouts on the vase and then sandblasting the entire piece. I made some vases and bowls using this technique but with fish motifs and flowers and other items.
