Having trouble identifying this signature. Any ideas?
-
It's quite difficult to see the signature on the picture. I think I can make out HM.......could it be Henri Muller of Muller Freres? Any chance of another picture, and one of the base too?
-
here's another image of the signature. It is HM but I cant see the other letters clearly

Much better, thanks. I don't think it's Muller Fréres.
I was looking at this site recently, and thought you might find it useful in terms of the features of older and more modern cameo pieces.

Not saying yours is fake or repro, but I found it an interesting read.
The more I look at yours, the more I'm thinking the writing looks "Russian", or similar. There do not appear to be many vowels!
-
Yes I was thinking it looks a bit Russian with some Cyrillic looking characters.

Took a flyer and emailed the administrator of a Russian forum - not a glass site - and had this amazing reply.
"Yes, it's in Cyrillic Russian, probably before the Revolution. Horrible lighting on the vase, so can't read it properly, but I believe it bears the monogram of this guy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yury_Nechaev-Maltsov who was the owner of this crystal producing factory https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gus_Crystal. There is more info in Russian but you have to continue your own research."
Couldn't resist looking further. Found this one with what appears to be the same signature...….sold for £25,000! It does look a little better in terms of image and quality, but still interesting to see the signature with the name.

This one looks closer to yours

Maybe it's time to check the features for fake and repro cameo glass...….

Came back too late to modify the above post to add thanks to the administrator at Понаехали Тут! for their kind assistance with this information.
Found this Bonhams lot which includes a really good picture of the signature - click on the image of the vase and the other image should appear

That's amazing, that's exactly the signature. Well done everyone and thanks.

JOK, could you please confirm the size of the vase (height and width). From the photos, I estimate about 20cm / 8 inch height.
The reference links to the others all seem to show items of around 40cm (16 inch) height. I always think it is good to see smaller items - and also to compare sales prices (if other smaller ones can be found for reference).
But mainly, it looks to me that your vase is just as good in quality as the larger ones even if there is less detail in the cameo work.
A good find.

That's a fabulous find! :)
Thanks for sharing and fantastic research by catshome.
