Title: Whos Label is this?
Post by: Smitty on January 30, 2020, 06:08:13 PM
Can anyone help me identify the foil label on the base of this tiny red glass vase with what looks like inlaid silver /pewter decoration. The vase measures 5.2cms in height. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

not a clue unfortunately, but trying a little sleuthing given the label details, how about ………………..

The letters ARG followed by 925, possibly refer to the silver content  -  trouble is that ARG are the initial letters of the word silver in Albanian, French and Romanian.            Romanian could be a possibility worth trying  -  or not :)

Try this link   -   nope, I think that wasn't quite the right direction - cancelled link.

perhaps it just means BOhemia. ;)

Also Italian (argento)

The silver work reminds me of Italian themed (such as gondolas) "tourist type" items with various motifs set on plain green, blue and red (and other?) surfaces. But the size of items I am thinking of are larger than 5.2cm - more like 5 inch / 13cm.

The decor is silver. It polishes up with a silver cloth, but as I found out many years ago, it doesn't take much cleaning to take the overlay right off. I believe they're generally regarded as Venetian touristware. They're commonly found in red, blue and green, and sometimes depict images of Venice.

Thanks everyone for the help. Im at least happy now to know is most likely Italian even if the maker remains a mystery.
