Hi all,
Any help identifying this would be greatly appreciated! It is 21.5cm tall. Had to half and half due to file size restrictions. Any ideas?
-
Hi and welcome! :)
This looks like a vase rather than a paperweight, I'm going to ask a moderator to move it to the correct forum, which is for glass queries - don't worry about it, just "tidying up" to keep things straight.
We have plenty of techie help here for posting images - it looks as if you've had a bit of a struggle. Thanks very much for trying so hard - it is appreciated. :)

Hi Sue,
Many thanks for the welcome and your reply!
It was a difficult one for me to decide what kind of item this actually is. As it doesn't have a space to actually contain anything I thought I'd go for weight over vase of any other type of glass. But that's cool I think given the size of it is maybe too big to be classed as a weight.
Thank you for the link to the tech support for trimming down the file size of photos. I'll have a play about and see of I can get a full picture posted. I appreciate your time!
Kind Regards,
John

Picture in full...

Hi John,
Thanks for following up on Sue's pointer to the Help info - that saves me a moderating task. And well done on achieving an image of the whole item.
And yes, at 21cm tall, it is far too big to be a paperweight (unless it was made as a doorstop ::)). But its shape and features are, I am sure, known to many in this forum. Hopefully a positve ID will be given soon.
I have changed the thread title to refer to "the hole" rather than "paperweight".

There are some cased glass teardrop sculptures coming out of China. Could we see the base please?
-
I think sculpture is the right word. :)
How neat is the inside bit of the hole, John?
I have a bit of a thing about holes in glass items - they're difficult things to achieve in hand made glass, bits of the hot metal have to be cut, shaped and then joined up with each other.
If the join is neat, that can be an indication of quality.
Unless it was made using newer moulds in an automative process. ::)
What exactly, does the base look like? All completely flat and shiney or slightly dull? Any marks there at all?
-
Example from alibaba...... Of course, your piece may be from somewhere else......a picture of the base will help.

Hi all,
Thanks for all the responses! A picture of the base is attached. I would also say that the circle is not perfect.
Kind Regards,
John

Flat polished base. :)
Not perfect is also not bad.
Sometimes the joins can be really lumpy and ropey, "not perfect" might be about as good as it gets.
However, I do have a bit of a feeling this piece of glass is fairly recent and quite possibly Chinese.
Even if it is not on a big geometric plinth. ;D
-
The plinth was because they were showing they could make pieces for use in awards. Suspect they could do them without.
The base looks ground but not polished, on my iPad anyway.
-
Loads of Chinese glass sculptures appear on plinths - it's an "identifying feature" I use. If it looks ok, but is on a square or rectangular plinth, I look again, much more carefully. :-[

Hi All,
Apologies for the slow response it's been a busy week! Thank you all so much for taking your time to help me with this I have found it very useful. Many thanks.
Kind Regards,
John
