Title: Large Green Glass Pitcher Ewer
Post by: KRude on February 10, 2020, 11:32:14 PM
Hello,

I bought this pitcher at the thrift.  It has a shape like some Blenko pitchers, but the base is clearly not that.  I see similar ones attributed to Empoli, but everything is Empoli.  Can you tell me from the base if it is Chinese?  I wish I could figure out how the base of a true vintage blown glass piece is supposed to look!

Thanks

KR

Unfortunately, things like this are very difficult to ID. Italy seems likely but it could have been made almost anywhere within the last 70-80 years, though China seems unlikely to me and 60s, 70s or 80s seem most likely style and colourwise.

There is also no one base finish for vintage glass, or indeed any age of glass. This has been finished from the top, so there no pontil mark.

Thank you!  Not sure that is going to make me any smarter for the next one, but it certainly helped with this one.

This one came up when I was searching for Viking Glass, although it doesn't mention Viking glass, so I'm not sure why it appeared in the search results.  However, it is also from USA so it may be worth considering a US maker for these.
