Title: Unusual large Goblet with folded rim's 20 cm Tall
Post by: LEGSY on February 12, 2020, 07:34:42 PM
Purchased these fine goblets and would love to know any
views regards to date or manufacture i am tentatively leaning
towards Italian but i am also aware of some similar reproductions
by Powell to name one, Any ideas on quality also they feel really
good in the hand of solid weight and seem well made they also
have an unusual sort of green stem similar to bottle glass maybe
this will help with attribution..The rims are folded !Also wanted to apologize as been away
after a bike accident so have not been able to reply on recent other posts
sadly the bike came off the worst :( The glasses are large standing a full 20 cm tall
Thanks for looking Dan :)

Personally, I prefer than the bike suffered more than you did; I'm very glad you're ok.
Have you considered that they might be completely contemporary studio glass?
The stems are reminding me of goblets I have by Annette Meech. (With a bit of Empoli on top!)
Is there age-related wear on the base?
If it's only a very fine ring of glass it stands on, it might be hard to see, but can be found using a fingernail in the correct place.
The rigaree looks old. The bowl looks old. But somebody might have been experimenting with techniques!

Are they nice to use? ;D
After an accident, you need a treat or so. ;)

 ;)
Thanks Sue i have not at all considered a studio glass
blower i will open my search i just jumped to the
conclusion based on the sort of ring under the bowl
looking similar to some facon de venise pieces i see
what you mean now, Wear wise its an odd one really
the previous owner said they came from his aunts
cabinet so may well have been in there some years
and used at special occasions :) Also the folded rim
has remnants of aged wines or similar very old looking
and the dust has accumulated in the rigaree However.
Not a lot of genuine wear though on the base of the foot
And it sort of goes in right in the middle of the foot
to a tight dimple not seen many like this before
quite an oddity would you agree :)
Thanks again super reply :)

Annette Meech made stems a bit like that in the early '70s.
This one is 7" tall. (20cm is just under 8")
