Title: Art Nouveau - Green Glass Jar & Ashtray -With Silver/Silverplated/Pewter overlay
Post by: F. Antonis on July 25, 2020, 11:46:41 AM
Hi there ;)

I have bought this set online, and it finally arrived today.
I hope somebody recognizes these pieces, because I
don't know anything about them.

I have placed them here in the German section, because
it feels German to me.

It's a set of green glass jar and ashtray, made in the Art Nouveau period.
Very nicely decorated. I have no idea whether it's silverplated or pewter, and how to see.
It IS magnetic, so it's not silver then.

But.. the only match I could find online was this set, described as silver.

I hope somebody can tell me more about this.

Thanks!

Hi and welcome to the board. Where you do not know where an item originates please post it into Glass, not one of the country forums (unless it's a paperweight, an animal / figurine, or a trinket set, all of which have their own ID forums.) The country forums are for discussion once we know it belongs to that country.

Your pieces look very much like my decanter, goblets and bowl. See my earlier topic here https://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,1805.0.html  for more about this type of glass.

Hi Anne,

In the meantime I have found out that it's Russian glass.
Silverplated metal. But I think mine somehow has most of it's silver off.
Don't know what could be the reason for that. Only the metal on the lower
side of the ashtray still "shines" abit.

I have found a couple of examples. With the Russian double eagle.
Your glass seems to be exactly the same, although the silver might have a different style to it.

The odd thing that I notice is...
The rim of the glass on most examples I found, and also on yours, has a little
(I dont know how to say this in English)  a little bit sticking out.

If you google something like this you should also find it:
"Russian Double Eagle Glass"
"Silverplated Double Eagle Glass"

I think the rim sticking out means it is machine made as commented on on Anne's thread.

Ivo's suggestion included Azerbaijan or Ukraine.  That might fit with what you've found as Russian.
