Title: Jules Mabut cameo glass question
Post by: flying free on August 11, 2020, 11:46:54 PM
Does anyone know anything about this 'maker'?  I'm not even sure it is a maker, but have seen it listed as Verrerie a Paix Jules Mabut.
I have a green over clear cameo vase miniature and the background technique appears to be the same as those I'm seeing online marked as Jules Mabut.   Mine is not marked.  I'm curious as to who this maker was.

Mine is here in this thread:
https://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,59117.msg334444.html#msg334444

Here's one example I found online:
https://www.barnebys.com/auctions/lot/jules-mabut-glass-vase-Ravy6njWF_qU

Another here:
http://stoneartcup.com/fine_and_rare_jules_mabut_miniature_french_acid_etched_cameo_vase_cir_1900.htm

and here:
https://picclick.fr/Jules-Mabut-A-la-paix-Art-nouveau-vase-114231132064.html

I wonder if these were made by Montjoye?  see here:

Thanks for any help.

I have been looking at Georges Rouard and his shop/gallery/workshop A La Paix, Paris and came across this thread.

From https://www.art-angelux.com/rouard

...using google translate ”....But it was in 1900 that he [Rouard] took over at 34 avenue de l'Opéra in Paris, the management of the auction house ‘A la Paix’, founded twenty years earlier by Jules Mabut.”

There’s a bit more further down that suggests Jules Mabut was ‘custodian of Gallé productions’ and others.

So possibly just an auction house/retailer.

Thanks Ekimp - I too was reading about Rouard a little while ago for some reason I cannot now remember.  I will have to dig out my books now and see if I can find anything mentioned on those names.  Much appreciated :)

I was looking at whether Rouard sold St Louis under his A La Paix brand. The cutting on his Philadelphie service looks the same as St Louis Alaska. (Ref catalogues on cmog).

The opportunity of a purchase has been passed though :)
