Hi, I am new to paperweighting having inherited a few from my gran, and so far have dabbled in some inexpensive pieces. However, I spotted this one on a charity auction and thought it looked a bit special so I bought it. Now I need help Identifying it please. I have an idea it might be old english or maybe even Bacchus?? It has very distinctive cog canes with four lobed crosses within them. It's really beautiful with an almost 'fluffy' appearance. What does anyone else think?? Thanks!

Hello and welcome, beautiful weight, I'd go with English but wait and see what the experts have to say ;D ;D

Thanks Keith, yes that's what I'm tending towards too, although i'm definitely not an expert! It's even lovelier in real life and I'm looking forward to hopefully finding out a bit more about it.

Hi,
Not Bacchus but Richardson I beleive, that turquoise blue is almost their signature colour.

Thanks Nick,
Yes the turquoise is particularly striking and it does appear that maybe Richardson also used those canes with the crosses in them.....??

Hmm. I get lost when trying to identify old English weights.
Perhaps the turquoise blue canes are a marker for Richardson. But what about the pale, Salmon-Pink canes and the fact that the main colourings are of a pastel shade? Pastel shade canes used top be a marker for Bacchus but maybe that no longer holds true, these days?

I have found an extremely similar one in a Millers paperweight guide which says it is by an unknown maker so it looks like I may never know the true identity of it. Never mind - it's a lovely weight and I am pleased I bought it!!
Many thanks to you all for your help.
