Title: Uranium Glass Jug
Post by: NevB on August 26, 2020, 12:25:15 PM
This is a uranium glass hand blown jug, from the colour I'd say late Victorian/ Edwardian. I've had a quick look but not found a possible maker.

It probably didn't fool anybody but here it is actual size  ;D. It is beautifully made.

I thought I'd bump this one as I found another thread which points to it possibly being made by the German firm Lauscha.

Lauscha is a town not a company

Much of the glass made in Lauchsa was lampwork, even small jugs like yours can be made via lampwork. The usual clue is the very lightweight nature of the pieces. See also http://www.theglassmuseum.com/lampwork.html and this fab video showing a lampwork wineglass being made https://youtu.be/flK1dIlmwr0

It's certainly lightweight Anne, 0.2 of an ounce or 6gms., about the same as a 10p. piece. That's an excellent video, I'd imagine that's how the liqueur glasses I posted on the 9th. of March would have been made.

It does sound like lampwork then Nev. I have a taller jug which is similarly lightweight which is also lampwork - it feels so delicate that I'm almost afraid to handle it!  http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,4477.0.html
