I bought this vase with other glass items on impulse on a online auction thinking that there was chance that this piece could be a Whitefriars Pattern 9243 . To my disappointment when I received the vase I found that it measures 11.75ins in height and not the 10.5ins I expected with that pattern Whitefriars. The ball at the base too seemed wrong, not round but segmented. Any ideas as to what this vase is would be must appreciated.

It isn't Whitefriars. More likely to be Alsterfors, Sweden.

Thanks Anne for your response and of course you are spot on. Yes this is an Alsterfors. I'm so embarrassed to have had to ask.
Thanks again.

Please don't ever feel embarrassed to ask. ;)
-
Absolutely not - it is quite similar to a WFs design.
It's just the shape and placement of the knop that is different. And now you know. :)

Thanks both of you for your words of support. It is what makes this a Forum such a pleasure to visit.
By way of an excuse on my part the base of the vase was hidden in the auction house picture. I like to think I would have realised it was not Whitefriars if it had been visible. As they say that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it .

I actually prefer the Alsterfors ones to the WF. ones. ;)

I have updated the thread title to include the ID for Alsterfors.
But could some kind person please add a link to a known example as my general searches have not found one!

Christine has a similar one in this topic http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,13337.0.html

OK thanks Anne, It'll do for me.
But I wonder why I could find no similar ones on a general google search ???
