Curious to know any thoughts and thank you.
Foot is similar to the foot in the candleholder in The Crystal Years pp25.
I also have a pink or rose alabaster small glass with a bobbin stem like the candle holder.
I had been wondering Richardsons? instead of S & W alabaster range.
The opaline is sublime and incredibly beautiful - very much like the other S&W alabaster pieces I have but none of them in green are uranium. However, R.S. Williams Thomas in The Crystal Years says on alabaster glass 'The uranium oxide in the batch gave a bright and slightly yellow tinge to this exciting colour'. Which is a bit weird given none of my three green pieces are uranium glass ???
Christine kindly posted two Walsh grapefruits on another thread but I think the foot profile on mine is different to those?
By the way the whole thing is very highly polished so although the base around the large polished pontil looks strange it's just the lighting and how I had to take the pic to get the polished pontil to show up under artificial light :)

Could it be from France/Netherlands?

The rounded saucer is the other option for grapefruits but I haven't got with a stem like yours or a pontil mark. [Those grapefruits I posted were not Walsh).
I wonder if the uranium is another error in the Crystal Years. Keith also has green S&W that's not uranium

Thank you.
Yes, you maybe right about the error. I've always wondered about his comment. I have to say this grapefruit does have a slightly warmer tint to it than the other pieces of S&W green I have.
(And apologies for my misreading the two grapefruits as Walsh)
The foot of this one does look very similar to the candleholder in the book. But also looks very similar to the foot on a Walsh bubbly grapefruit of Paul's I found on the board:

So bearing in mind your green Walsh salt and the possibility of that candleholder being Walsh, there may be a connection there.
On the other hand the bowl and stem are different to Paul's. And at the end of the day a foot might not be differentiating enough on a grapefruit as you've mentioned. Confusing as always when we don't know the answer :)

My non- uv S&W's ;D ;D

Thanks Keith. Nev, it's possible but at the moment I can't say why, but I think it's English glass.
One thing - I've also just done a comparison of pontil mark size and I'd say that whilst it's a good size, it's not of the same size of 'large' polished pontil marks on my Stevens and Williams alabaster pieces. Nor the odd vase I have either. hmm.
This is a picture of a green and white opaline cinerary vase sold as H.G. Richardson - I think the green is a good match ?:

I've attached some pictures taken in daylight to better show the colour, one with S&W alabaster glass group in green.
It definitely doesn't have the bluey cool tint of the Stevens and Williams alabaster pieces.
I don't know where the emerald green opaline vase hails from either but it's a different kind of construction so just there for colour comparison.
I'd say the colour and the foot is the same as this pair of stemmed sweetmeat bowls from 20th century glass sold as Stevens and Williams alabaster range. They are also uranium glass:

And just because my powder boxes are not marked, here is a link to a blue alabaster range Stevens and Williams powder box (with a 'notch' cut into the rim for a spoon ??? - perhaps they were also made as Jam pots?) that is marked on the pontil mark with the fleur-de-lys and SW mark:

That grapefruit does look very S&W, and I've never seen a two-colour alabaster in uranium but they are a very different green.
-
Thank you :)
These uranium green pieces below are all a different colour to the non-uranium pale and darker green of the S&W 'alabaster' range.
I also think the grapefruit looks like an S&W design and execution (weight of glass, finish etc, although the pontil mark is smaller than all my S&W pieces)
I'm trying to compare the green of my grapefruit:

to the bobbin stem tazza here - I think this looks a different colour to the grapefruit now I look at it more closely:

and the two champagne 'alabaster' glasses on 20th century glass here. I think these look like S&W pieces as well :

However to me it looks as though the green of the champagne glasses stem might be a bit cooler than the green of my grapefruit now I look at it again. What do you think?
Photographs are really difficult to compare for lighting etc. I find it really hard.
