Hello, I thought the base of this was unusual - it has 4 smoothed edges so to speak and a hole in the middle. The base made me wonder who it might be by - any ideas would be great :) Thank you

Are the yellow spots in it a bit random and nearly bubbly?
Do you think they could be silver salt inclusions?
The hole in the bottom makes me wonder if it was a finial for something - or even a door knob.
But the strange cutting and satination around it (which could be to allow for the back of a doorknob) also makes me wonder if it might have been cut down from something else.

The yellow bits are more like gold flakes - I half thought the hole was to add them in. I've found a Wedgewood one with the hole in it here...

But no ground edges on that!

Maybe an oil lamp that goes in some sort of holder ‘upside down’?
