Title: Unusual Paul Ysart weight
Post by: SophieB on November 04, 2020, 03:25:50 AM
Hi all,

Here is another unusual Paul Ysart 'star' design (bought in the same auction as the PY scramble and came from the same collection).

I don't think I have ever seen this design before. Has anybody here?

The dimension are:
Diameter 3 inches
Height 2.5 inches

Interesting!

I would go for "spoke" design rather than "star" - but who knows? And when it comes to forming unusual design features, I would usually start looking at Salvador Ysart weights! But this weight is certainly by Paul Ysart.

No, I have not seen this pattern formation before, with its bent twist canes as a clear "sectioning" feature. However, I have seen manipulated canes used as a form of script lettering in the centre of each of two forms of Paul Ysart "star pattern" weights - one has a "B" and the other a "J".

For viewers with access to the PCC 2013 Exhibition Catalogue, the two "Lettered" weights are shown on page 30.

Hi Kevin,

Many thanks. Yes, spoke design would work too..

I am surprised PY did not make more of this design. It is quite effective.
