Title: The art of glass restoration....A Boffo fish undergoes treatment.
Post by: Baked_Beans on November 05, 2020, 07:26:57 PM
I recently bought an early Whitefriars Boffo fish in a damaged state and decided to have it restored .
There was a chunk missing from the dorsal fin and quite heavy chips to the main body .
I took the fish to one of the UKs leading experts in ceramic and glass restoration,  Sarah Peek who is based in Brighton.
Sarah and her team are able to reconstruct and restore
objects to bring them back to their former glory and they did a great job . The first two photos show the initial condition of the fish .
Sarah kindly took a series of photos to show the techniques and materials used during the restoration process. The last photos are of the restored fish .

That is dedication Mike! Really interesting to see what can be achieved and how it is actually accomplished.

Thanks John , the whole process took a little less than three hours work . The repair bill , including VAT and materials came to £162.00 which I thought was very reasonable.

Definitely worth it.  I presume the repair can be reversed ?

And thank you for the link.  I'm going to contact her about about a large Galle vase I have that has a 2cm bite out of the rim.  I've been meaning to do it for ages but was worried about cost of doing it, however that feels achievable.

M , yes it is entirely reversible,  also guaranteed for 50 years not to discolour or to go yellow.
Sarah is a wonderful lady and very modest too , considering her world wide reputation.  I cannot recommend her highly enough ! Good luck !
