Title: Abstract glass birds with purple wings
Post by: glassobsessed on January 03, 2021, 10:17:46 AM
I have drawn a blank so far with these birds, any ideas?

They are 12cm tall and wide, bases are polished flat with a neat little bevel around the edge.

I know you are calling them birds, John.  However I can't hink of any bird that has a two stage wing like that.  I immediately thought butterfly/moth for a wing shape like that.  Also there is no attempt to suggest a tail that a bird would have.

I was just going to say the same ;D, I've found some Fenton butterflies on bases but nothing quite like these

I know what you mean having spent a long time considering butterfly or moth. However birds I think they are, many birds flare their wings (and more importantly in this case) their tails in the final moments of descent to lose speed either when landing or pouncing on prey. This is the shape I see anyway!

Where is my hat? Perhaps I should be eating it. :D

Those Baccarat butterflies are very very close, differences include mine have longer more curved bodies and the lower 'wing' is made from one piece instead of two separate pieces as well as sitting higher, also they are unsigned. Intriguing...

;) I kept quiet, but thought butterflies too. :-[
I wondered if they were little table decorations, and had pondered French, given I know Lalique made little pretty things to put on tables.

So you might have saved me my embarrassment?  ;)

The Baccarat 'flies are quite a lot smaller too.

:-[ sorry. I know I open my trap when I shouldn't but clearly, I keep it shut when I shouldn't.
The Baccarat ones are described as "charms". Bigger ones might have been made for table place setting markers?  ;D
