Title: unknown blue bowl ?
Post by: Mick the fish on February 22, 2021, 04:44:58 PM
Does anyone have any ideas what this large round Bristol blue bowl is? It has flecks of gold in the glass. It is 13 inches  in diameter the bowl opening is 7.5 inches diameter and it is 3 inches tall and weighs 2.1kg.

The flecks are aventurine I believe.  What is the base like?  Is it indented into the mould?

Looks to be a variation on the 'Cardinal's hat' type bowls: a shape most often seen in Murano glass. No idea of maker, but Venini and Salviati have been mentioned elsewhere. A search here for 'Cardinal's hat' should bring up some similarly made pieces.

Thanks for your reply, very helpful, did a search as you suggested and the information I found there would suggest that the bowl is. as you said, a Cardinal's hat type by Murano.

Thanks and best regards Mick
