Hello, this piece has lots of small bubbles and a mottled green colour throughout and ideas on ID would be most helpful. Thank you
-
::) This stuff. ;D
To be found labelled (everywhere, and wrongly) "Scottish glass".
I believe it is Nazeing. :)

Do you Sue? I've one of those. I think Kev has a piece? Maybe a jug or something.
There's a thread about them on the board somewhere.
-
They appear as baskets too.
I think we established they are not Scottish and I seem to remember Nazeing was the only thing they could have been. It is hard to tell with these very small posies and baskets.
I can say "not Grey-Stan" safely, I think. ;D
And not Monart, Vasart, or any of the Ysarts.

Nazeing gets my vote.

It's a weird technique though. Not at all like any Nazeing I've ever had. It's kind of like a coating almost rather than 'in' the glass mix if you see what I mean. As though the pieces have been marvered in the green and then remelted slightly at the furnace?
-
I have not got any photos to hand but i have a few nazeing items that seem to fade out the the pattern
when it gets towards the top rim.

I think the only reason it looks the way it does is because of the small size of these things.
I have seen and handled a lot of them over the years. They are not surface decorated, M. :)
Nazeing type bubbles are produced by sodium bicarbonate being added to a gather then cased again.

Nigel thinks the green jug vase and bowl in that thread are not Nazeing. And seems to agree with me that they are enamels on the surface I think from reading? - Nigel said on that thread:
quote (my bold)
'The green bowl has a fully round polished pontil, which is not characteristic of any known and documented Nazeing production, whether as their own, or made for Elwell. The colour of the green appears (and I believe from pieces that I have seen over the years) has its enamel on the surface - again, not a Nazeing, or Elwell, charcarteristic.'
The green is definitely a very different green to my Nazeing green bowl.

The green jug and bowl in that thread are not the same as Roobarb's.
The decoration is different as well as the shade of green. They look sort of "patchy" mottled. ???

Thank you all for your replies :) They do look similar to mine flying flee (I can't enlarge them for some reason so just going off the smaller images) but they do seem to have a thicker rim.
