Hi, I was amazed to find this piece on a bric&brac shelf !?,but there it was,9.5 cm ht ,I think it’s dated jan 1879.Anyone know much about it and exactly what it was made for thanks .

A very nice find, here's a link to one in the Glass Gallery. Have you got a UV torch to see if it's Uranium glass? It's probably a spill vase.

It won't be uranium glass and it's more likely a posy vase, as it's too short for spills
