Title: Jack Lloyd or not ?
Post by: keith on May 05, 2021, 12:51:50 PM
Just 2.5 inches tall and 4.5 wide, the decoration is a lot like my J. Lloyd jug  ;D

:) It does look quite like a Jack Lloyd bowl I had once. Mine was signed, but it took ages to find it - tiny writing around a bit of decoration on the body.

I've searched all over, nothing, maybe some one tried to copy his work ?  ;D

Maybe he didn't sign it? How does the quality of work compare with your jug?
Both bowls have daisies. And very elegant curly bits.  ;D
I think the other flowers on the jug might be more buttercup-y, those are on both bowls too.
I don't have the bowl any more and my pics are not the best. :-[

Looking at the base of your bowlthat is all elllegant curly bits. That is rather unusual. I might allow myself to think/suspect that might help indicate original work.  ;D

The jug and vase I have are quite heavy this bowl is a bit on the light side so maybe not one of his  ;D

I think it looks like a Stevens and Williams bowl because of the delicate engraving and the style of the engraving. The engraved design is very similar to a cased cut to clear decanter I had - art nouveau period I think or maybe a bit earlier can't remember.

I think it looks a lot more delicately engraved in design than either the jug or Sue's bowl.

;D I defer to your vastly superior eye for this sort of thing, M.

No, not at all.  I've just been having second thoughts  ;D ;D

However, somewhere I have pics of the decanter.  I've just to remember when on earth they were taken as my cataloguing wasn't good and then it was gone.

Hope I can manage to upload this pic.  I think the engraving might be finer on the perfume bottle?

Beautiful decanter M, I don't mind if it's S&W's or Jack Lloyd, I'll be happy with either  ;D

Tha daisies are not the same. Those are kind of segmented into larger petal shapes.
I have a feeling I've seen both daisies and buttercups in Lloyd's work, but not in anybody else's. But I'm not au fait with much cold work.  :-\

Quite.  It was just that extra flourish of the engraving on the base of your bowl - I felt that was a little bit special - and the leaves do look similar to the engraving on the S&W pieces.
Also the S&W piece was quite medium weight, def not chunky/heavy and felt all round 'refined'.  It sounds as though your bowl felt similar compared to the jug etc.
