Title: Cut Lead Crystal Rummer
Post by: NevB on May 21, 2021, 03:06:53 PM
After much consideration I think this is a rummer from the Regency/Early Victorian era. It is 5 1/4" tall, with a 3 1/2" wide bowl and 3 1/8" foot. There is considerable wear on the foot but with only a very minimal contact area. The pontil is a ground out swirl and it has a blade knop. The bowl has some horizontal striations and a slightly grey colour, it may be my imagination but it seems to also have a slightly mauve tinge. Any thoughts ?

Love these rummers ,I’ve got a few.I think your dating is about right , the colour could be to do with being in sunlight sometime during it’s life ?

Thanks bat20, I thought the colour might be due to sunlight too. I'm always a bit hesitant in ageing these because apart from one or two scratches it's in very good condition. I've got a few rummers too so this is another one for the collection.

Noticed the glass wafer between stem and bowl. See this on a lot of cut stemware of this period in USA. Many English glass workers enticed [pilfered?] to come to over here, even though there was laws against this at the time.
