Title: Wedgwood Glass candlestick
Post by: neil53 on July 03, 2021, 10:58:47 AM
Hi anyone know what model this is?

This is a blue-stemmed candlestick designed for Wedgwood Glass.  The candlestick's foot and stem are in the blue colourway with the socle in clear glass.  The candlestick is 25.2 cm (10.1 inches) in height.  It weighs 172 g. (~ 6 oz.).  There is a sand blasted "WEDGWOOD ENGLAND" mark to the foot under a representation of the Portland vase, a trademark of Wedgwood Glass.  There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.

Should be in the candlestick section here.  :)

But isn't.
It looks like the Helix bowl on a Brancaster stem - if the stem is hollow.

Hi Sue, thanks for the reply.  I know the guys at stennettwillson.com and looked there and in the reference books first, but can't find it anywhere.  We've traded in Wedgwood Glass for nearly ten years and I've never seen one before.  The stem and foot do look like that from a Brancaster but the bowl is much bigger and slightly different in shape to a Helix socle.  Hopefully someone will know what it is.  I thought it might be a Frank Thrower designed derivative of a Brancaster but I think the Portland vase mark predated his time as lead designer.  Best wishes, Neil
