Title: (Unusual?) Paul Ysart weight/design
Post by: SophieB on July 03, 2021, 04:32:21 PM
Hi all,

As promised a week ago, here is a PY weight with a design that I had never seen before. I suspect it is pre-war Monart period and looks vaguely like a star.

Have you seen one before?

Hi Kevin,

Ah, you may have seen it when it was for sale on a 'famous auction site' ;D...

Yes that was probably the case.

We cannot, as yet, prove various things about PY early work. However, this weight looks to me to be a test piece for what became the regular "Spoke" pattern weights; some of which I find somewhat "rustic" in appearance and others very atractive.

I find the bent "spoke" elements in this weight to be quite unattractive - but fascinating from an academic viewpoint.
