Came across a picture today of a scene in Birmingham, looking from Bradford Street towards the city centre, on the right ( somewhere near today's coach station ) there are what look like a couple of glass cones, not aware of any glass makers based in the Digbeth part of the city, does anyone know more ? ;D

not a clue about B'ham Keith but ........... any chance these were related to pottery rather than glass? Looks like it might have been market day - windows look rather mean and narrow - could that be something to do with the tax on glass?
-
Not very well up on Birmingham geography but seem to recall Aston isn't far from Digbeth? Could it be the Aston Flint Glassworks, Keith? https://brumphotoarchive.co.uk/image/2869/Aston_Flint_Glassworks_Bagot_Street_Aston_near_Birmingham

Did wonder if they could have been pottery works, not aware of any potters in Digbeth either, I'll do a bit of digging.
Anne, Aston isn't far from Digbeth but these cones are in Digbeth, I worked in the area for a number of years and got to know the area well, I'll ask a few people I know who are into our local history ;D ;D

Been doing some digging, most,as Anne said most seem to be in Aston but a glass enamel firm, Thomas Clutton Salt had a factory off Bradford Street, do glass enamel factories have glass cones ? I've also found a Codd bottle on ebay impressed with the marks G & E Edmonds, Deritend ( Part of Digbeth )

Keith, I did a trawl of the board for Digbeth mentions and found this by Fred from Jan 2020 which might be useful:

Edit: Scratch this, I found the Belmont Glassworks at the top of Lawley Street, so not the same place.

Keith I've found a map showing the enamel works and it has what appears to be a round building in it! It stands between Bradford Street and Stone Yard (at the top of Green Street). https://www.british-history.ac.uk/os-1-to-2500/birmingham/014/05 (https://www.british-history.ac.uk/os-1-to-2500/birmingham/014/05) - Zoom in until you see where it says DERITEND in big letters across the map and the circle is just above but between the E and the R.
And an aerial photo of the site showing the remains of a circular something or other - possible the base of the cone?

Thanks Anne those links are the places where I've been asking questions and have seen those pictures, I have an old engraving showing the cones, I'll sort out the link tomorrow ;D

have you seen this info Keith?
Know nothing about Birmingham but there seems to be some info on this thread - discussion about brick works?:
https://birminghamhistory.co.uk/forum/index.php?threads/bradford-street.38749/page-4
and info about Goffe and Sons mineral water works - where were their bottles made?
