A nice find at the weekend. But not sure of ID. Is it US or is it Czech, The cuts are superb. I don't know a lot about about these star pattern pieces but am I right in assuming that they are Brunswick and hobstar? Than you for any info as always.

Hi, came across this the other day which posed a similar question: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,71001.msg395156.html

Hello Ekimp,
Thank you for the link. I put that thread on hehe. I picked up a decanter with the star pattern and asked if anyone could ID it. Paul came forward with some very interesting info and then I picked this vase up at the weekend. The vase is far superior to the decanter. The cut is superb.

Ha, I could remember reading it but forgot it was because it was a recent post :D looks an impressive vase anyway.

I'd suggest the double rows of small circular patterns are daisy wheel decoration - you can see it all over the Ed. Bolton famous boat design - you see it also on some Davidson and Sowerby patterns. From what I can see, there isn't a hobstar here - it's the 'hob' bit that's missing i.e. there is an absence of a solid central hobnail - the octagonal middle part - and thus it isn't a hobstar and you have instead a Brunswick Star. As with the other item we spoke of recently, I think the only cutting here is the central motif - the large outer star design looks to be pressed - correct me though if I'm wrong.
As for origin - the balance of probabilities suggests eastern Europe - we seem to get almost nothing in the way of genuine ABP on this Board, and remember the ABP ceased over one hundred years ago, so if this was period you would expect to be looking as some minor damage and probably wear too.
Aside from the small central cut motif, is there any other cutting on this piece - the mitres look to be cut, likewise the scallops on the rim.
