Title: Signature on candlestick
Post by: glasstime on November 08, 2021, 07:26:15 PM
Hi. Can anyone help with identifying the signature on my fabulous laminated fish candlestick. I had a feeling it might be Italian. Any ideas gratefully received.

It somehow doesn't look like an Italian signature, more north European/Scandinavian, I can't decipher it though.

It reminded me of some of the Hungarian works Attila Sik used to promote here before he left these islands. I checked his Prisma Gallery which is still going, but I don't think it was one of his stable of artists.

Thanks both. It may be destined to go in the cabinet of unidentified pieces but still looking!

Think I have seen another of these but don't remember anything about it, for what it is worth I have a vague feeling it was made here.

John

Is each fish on a different pane?

Hi John, Yes, so it gives a great feeling of depth.

I can kind of imagine the first word might be Alasdair?  :-\  ;D

Thanks for your interest. Not sure about the H.du S (now I look again I see where you're coming from) but yes, it could be Alistair or Alasdair. And each of the fish is slightly different to its neighbour. Interesting!
