It seems a million people came to see the event in Cardiff in 1896, Britains population was less than it is today and a million was a significant percentage of that total...

A few other examples can be found online, the tumbler is finely blown and roughly 11.5cm tall. Assume the design is acid etched, it is not particularly 'sharp', looks almost 'out of focus'. Engraved initials on the rear.

nice find John - the decoration is almost certainly sand blasted - has a very grainy appearance. If you look in Hajdamach (1800 - 1914), he shows late C19 tumblers with similar decoration - so seems they were fairly popular around that time.
-
Wasn't there one of these on Bargain Hunt the other day?
-
no idea - what did they say of its value ?? not see one before - perhaps they're rare. Looks like the dying days of pteridomania decoration.
-
It was on the episode from Narberth, bought for £8, sold for £10 plus commission.
-
if pushed I could run to eleven quid John, wouldn't want you not to make a profit. ;) Seriously - would also suggest these things are pressed rather than blown, generally.
-
Very finely pressed then. :D
Sandblasted, I need to study this stuff more! Cut, engraved etc is one of many of my weak areas...
Afraid it has never belonged to me, just bagged some snaps when the opportunity arose.
