Hello,
happy to have joined this forum.
Can anyone identify this vase. It looks like Stolzle Hermanova, but the top of the ribs are ground, which it isn't on my other pieces.
Measures 8.5 inches tall.
Many thanks for any help.
Pat.

Yes made for Stölzle in their Hermanova factory No.18888, probably 1930's, I have one in uranium green. It's in the pre 1958 catalogue on the CD which comes with Marcus Newhall's Sklo Union book but I can't show you an image due to copyright. The top of mine also appears to have been polished.

agree, it does look to be Hermanova pre 1958 Pattern 18888 example - it's a shame that Pamela Wessendorf's pressglas.pavillon appears not to have an example - we would then have been able to show the image from Pamela's museum. However, if anyone has the Sklo Union (Marcus Newall) CD, then page 5 shows most of the items that were produced with this basic design of irregular ribbs - similar to the vase 18888.
Item 18729 from that page is similar in the sense that it shows a vase - albeit minus the circular foot arrangement - but with the zig-zag ribbed appearance with alternate ribs showing the frosting.
Nice piece by the way.

Thank you very much Paul S. & NevB
It is one of a pair. I would like to sell them as are not what I usually collect.
Would you have any idea of a rough value.
Thanks again,
Pat.

I think Pamela has a 18729 here:

We don't normally give prices here, you can check sold prices on Ebay, but I would suggest £20-£30 for the pair.

I can't speak for Nev - and it will be a disappointment I expect - but for v.g. reasons the GMB avoid giving valuations, unlike the States guys who seem to revel in putting a value on most things. What someone is prepared to pay, for almost anything, is a very personal decision. Would suggest you have a look on line for similar pieces, from auction sites and any other sales venues that offer mid C20 glass.
It's unlikely these will enable you to retire - even uncomfortably - but wish you luck of course. :)
-
Thank you Paul, I didn't realise.
I will continue to look online, though I've not had much luck so far.
Thanks again,
Pat.

suspect Nev may have greater knowledge re values, than me, and the figure suggested may well be correct. :) Most things tend to find their own level when it comes to value - I'm inclined to suggest these are simply sent either to auction, or ebay, rather than endless hunting for an exact comparison. Don't know what you might have paid, but provided you don't put an unrealistic reserve on them, you'll get something back - we all occasionally buy bits we have second thoughts on. Do you have other interesting glass to show us? :)

Here is about half of my collection, nothing jaw dropping! Mostly Whitefriars or Sommerso. Mostly from charity shops, so chips etc on most
-
oops!

sorry Pat - you don't get any brownie points for showing the same picture twice ;) ;) - seriously, a nice collection and some vibrant colours, thanks for showing - those Murano type heavily faceted sommerso pieces are always appealing, and the W/Fs tangerine is a very cheerful colour.
The flea bites don't matter - it's buying what you like that counts - and another haunter of charity shops is always welcome - join the club - it's where most of my bits come from and it's the hunting that's the fun.
Expect Anne (Mod.) will delete the duplicated picture.

Thank you Paul.
Is there a specific message board on here where members show their collections?
I'd love to have a nosey at what other folk collect :)
-
Under the rather dubious heading of 'Show me yours, I'll show you mine' - which seems to have run for quite some time - there was much enthusiasm for showing collections, but I think the server may have run out of capacity. Anne (Mod.) re-started that location several times, but I don't think it's used now - I could be wrong - and a more recent site for showing member's general collections could be this one ............... https://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,63249.msg394164.html#msg394164 .
I wouldn't worry much about whether it's right or wrong, just jump in and post - Anne will waggle her big stick if necessary. Alternatively, simply post some pix under 'Glass' and wait and see what happens - it's always interesting to see other folk's choice of pieces.
