Title: Skrdlovice vase
Post by: NevB on December 09, 2021, 02:44:10 PM
I'm sure this is by one of the Skrdlovice designers, possibly Jan Beranek or one of the other Beraneks, or indeed someone else. It is 34cm. tall, weighs 1.75 kg and I think is from the 1950's/60's. The base has been ground flat but it's not very stable. I've looked through the linked website but can't find it.

I doubt Skrdlovice. Particularly with that matte base rather not Czech at all.

"Jan Beranek" is typical ebay keyword spamming, just to add a designer's name to anything thought to be Skrdlovice.

Thanks Michael, I'll have to do some more research. I think it is European although I could be wrong again.

Christine, I saw a reference to Romanian vases somewhere and did a search and found some similar but nothing conclusive, I'll keep searching. The frosted base on mine is unusual but I'm thinking it just wasn't finished/polished properly.

It does bear a resemblance to the vases sold as the Karlovarske brand by Mstisov and later Moser, although most of theirs seem to be cased glass and I can't find anything with a two lobed rim.
