Hi , this shallow bowl/vase is 7 cm in height with a polished pontil and three spots of wear on the areas it sits on .I haven’t come across this silvery green colour before on older glass ? , but I think it maybe turn of the century?Ring any bells , thanks .
-
I thought I better do an image of the light behind , there seems to be some sort of pigment brushed on then cased , obviously I could wrong ?
-
I am very unsure about the shape and the thickness, but the decor in the metal itself is rather reminiscent of Clutha glass. It may be a fairly decent reproduction.

could be v. wrong, but it's makes me think art nouveau, and they, in turn, may have borrowed the shape from antiquity. I would have thought more likely the flecks would have been marvered into the gob rather than brushed on, but we may never know. Sorry, but I can't see the pontil depression - it's lost in the swirls/clouds ;) Is it a v. precise and highly polished depression, or irregular and less than shiny? How was this sold to you - with any description?

Thanks for the replies,I picked up from a flea market for a £10 ,so not much in the way of chat when you buy something Paul….The pontil is well polished , it’s not heavy, but not light either
-
Reminds me of a Hoglund shape - so my thoughts would have turned to possibly Scandinavian.
Nice.

Yup ? I thought this one was going to turn out a bit tricky?,i tried to get a better pontil shot …
-
And here’s one that highlights the silvery effect ,maybe a bit of salt fuming ???
-
looks good, thanks for the extra pix - I hadn't realized that the silver was a surface decoration .................. salts ? - perhaps then you have the original piece of carnival glass ;D ;) Can now see the depression adequately - thanks. Perhaps for future pix a piece of dark (or white) card - to avoid the busy background - might be useful, but that last picture is good.
-
That may rule out Clutha.
-
A photo on a black background might be useful.
Keep thinking Loetz and Melusin but it is not quite right:

Something familiar about the squat shape but I can't pin it down.

Thanks John !,I see what you mean they ‘re some striking similarities.I’ll take some images with a black background when I’ve got better light👍
-
Here’s some badly lit images from last night and this morning,it does seem very like Melusin! especially
St 11-4241 with the rim characteristics , colour finish etc being a dead ringer .It’s tricky to photo and changes hourly !?

Couple more

There is a good chance that is a piece of Melusin, finding another piece of Loetz with this same shape would help confirm it (you could try checking every single example on the Loetz.com website, it would take time but be an education!), I have never handled a piece of Melusin and that is making me cautious.

Thanks John,I’ve been through a few of the decors looking at the shapes, don’t mind it at all !it’s very interesting .The closest so far is a piece of Spiraloptisch from 1905 , the same period as Melusin

Ah yes, this one: https://www.loetz.com/decors-a-z/image?view=image&format=raw&type=img&id=3311
That for me is the clincher. Well spotted and all the way from A to S before you found it! It is an utterly fabulous website and resource.

Thanks again John , I believe it is Loetz Melusin piece even though when I found it Loetz wasn’t my first thought and I went down the wrong rabbit hole ! .So thanks for the shove in the right direction and yes the Loetz site is a fantastic resource .
