Title: 20th century hand blown reproduction ?
Post by: cagney on February 13, 2022, 03:31:24 PM
Assumed to be a 20th century interpretation of early Dutch/German style. Heavy thick glass. I think non lead glass. Simple applied prunt and ringed base. Possibly the cup blown into the ringed base and foot as there seems to be no evidence the rings were applied , but rather tooled as part of the base. I have not had any luck in placing as to actual time and origin. Any ideas most welcome. 10.8 cm tall,8.5 cm diameter at top and 7.9 cm diameter foot.

Good honest wear of the soft sort. There is some what I call "ring wear" from grasping with a ring on the finger. Mostly on the upper ring. Hardly noticeable  except by use of a loop or a very perceptive feel. Very small nicks on the glass. Something  I always look for as further indication of some age/use. The color seems to be a little off. Somewhere between a true emerald green and a forest green.

What a great lead. Took a little viewing of the Glass Museum of Empoli through Google Arts & Culture, very enlightening. The Verde Glass exhibits do seem to vary somewhat in their color under the same lighting as the color comes from minerals in the sand.

Nothing quite like my footed tumbler. I did come upon a compote at https://worthpoint.com/worthopedia/empoli-art-glass-italy-verde-green-1800039636 (https://worthpoint.com/worthopedia/empoli-art-glass-italy-verde-green-1800039636) similar in color, craftmanship, thickness and even a partial ground and polished pontil. Thanks so very much bat20
