Title: Alvar Aalto acid mark
Post by: CoogeetoCanberra on February 28, 2022, 02:07:11 AM
Hi everyone! I recently picked up this very cute Iittala dish from an op shop in Lithgow (country New South Wales, Australia). I haven't been able to find anything similar online that is this size (only around 10cm in width and 3cm high) and it also has a slightly unusual acid etching on the bottom which reads 'ALVAR AALTO - IITTALA' rather than the standard 'Iittala' maker's mark.

Does anyone have any idea when this piece may have been manufactured, and why the etching on the bottom is different from the standard Iittala pieces?

Thank you!

It is a moulded/embossed mark, it is shown in this link but with no other information.
