Hi everyone,
I'm looking for some more information on my two cups/beakers.
They were in a lot I bought, along with some empire glass.
I have a hard time dating them.
The handles are either bronze or brass.
Is anyone here familiar with these type of glasses or cuts?
One of 'em is way heavier than the other one. Could be just the bigger handle.
The heavier one is the one with the diamond cut on top and bottom.
Not sure if they're crystal or 'normal' glass.
What I do know? Absolutely nothing :p
Thanks in advance!

I think they might be Turkish tea cups. Not neccessarily Turkish glass though and I suspect they might have some age. The tea itself is served very sweet with mint in it.

Thank you for your response. Turkey might be a little off if you ask me.
Unless it's based on anything similar that you know of.
I've bought it in Italy, along with mostly french glass.

This style of metal handled cup is what is used for drinking Turkish tea.
There are loads of tea sets on that well-known auction site.

I have been searching since yesterday. Can't seem to find anything that comes close.
You're right about the handle. That sort of has the same style.
Due to the cut crystal, there's nothing similar.
If it has age, like you considered.. I tried on turkish, on ottoman, on arabic.
Just now I'm thinking, the meander pattern.
That could be greek, since that's next to turkey.
Couldn't it be french you think?

:) I'm afraid I am fairly clueless about this sort of glass, and of where it might originate. I just recognised the style of glass and metal handle. Yours are more decorative and complicated than many more recent ones, I think. But I imagine there will be a lot of companies made them.

Hi, In the book From Neuwelt to the Whole World/300 Years of Harrach Glass, page 70 shows an incomplete tea set c1820. It is cut clear glass with gilded bronze mountings that don’t look too dissimilar to the mountings on yours, although some of the handles are in the form of a birds neck. It says ‘gilded montage of French origin’.
The cylindrical form of yours and the cutting of your 2nd glass looks a bit like the empire style of cutting (although not sure about the vertical panels). There is a glass handled tankard c1818 on page 69 of the Harrach book that in my view has a similar look to your 2nd glass.
Both items in the book are from Museum of Decorative Arts, Prague. I would cross my fingers and search Empire period French or Bohemian if they were mine and looked like they had the age. They do also resemble the Turkish ones though :D

Okay, I will search further then ;)
And the glass set your referring to which says, ‘gilded montage of French origin’
would probably mean that the glass itself, (most likely design and end product as well)
are Harrach's but the mount was made in France.

Tea cups are fairly common if niche product made by many manufacturers. Is there much wear on the bases? The metal work looks to be in good condition (it also looks plated), judging from the photographs I would estimate late 20th century.
By way of example these Tsaikka glasses are by IIttala, a more 'minimalist' design from Timo Sarpaneva.

That could be true. I have no clue.
No, there's not much wear.
Maybe I'll come across something similar in the future..
