Hi,
I’m new here and to glass in general. I’ve bought two alleged Whitefriars bark vases of eBay and I’m pretty sure at least one isn’t genuine. The larger one seems ‘wishy washy’ on the green colour, the rim is sharp not rounded and the pontil isn’t polished possibly moulded, plus there’s obvious lines down both sides!.
The smaller finger vase, colour and rim seem ok but the pontil isn’t polished, please see photos Any help appreciated.
Kind regards,
Tom

Hi and welcome. :)
I think your larger vase might be Ingridglas.

I don't know enough about wfs to say anything about the lack of polishing on the pontil mark on the finger one. It looks polished to me. :)
But there are others here who will. Just hang on a wee bit longer and somebody will let you know.

The base of the finger vases do not have a polished pontil mark, it is the same for the Coffin and Nailhead vases as well. They have cut and polished rims rather than hot worked rims so they never needed to be attached to a pontil rod so no mark to polish away.

Thanks Sue,
I think your spot on with the big one, it’s just like that Ingrid Glass one on Etsy.never heard of it before. It’s nice looking I was just surprised by the sharpness of the rim.

Hi John,
Thanks for the info. That’s a relief, I though I’d made two mistakes. Everything else about feel right so I’m glad you’ve confirmed that about the pontil.
Thanks

Ingridglas might not be Whitefriars, but it is still very good glass. :)
The bark texture is different.

Thanks for that info: just bought a Coffin vase and was slightly worried that it didn't have a pontil mark... a quick web-search led to this thread and reassurance.
