Title: A very Chinese looking Pansy Paperweight
Post by: mhgcgolfclub on July 24, 2022, 03:36:50 PM
It looks very Chinese to me but also different with its orange ground base. I think it is a Pansy.
Could it be new it only cost £1 from car boot.
The red flower has some gold aventurine blobbed on it.

Snapped rough pontil mark.
Diameter 3.25"
Weight 500gm

Thanks Roy

I don't remember seeing Chinese weights with a snapped mark like that, sorry nothing positive to add.

Could be Bohemian/Czech with the orange ground. The snapped pontil mark would be OK

Thanks Roy

I have quite a collection of Bohemian / Czech paperweights, but never encountered a snapped pontil mark (a rare base finish anyway for any glass from that area).

I agree that it is not very likely to be Chinese either.

It reminds me of the Pilkington weights that were said to be made be the Czech workers at St Helens (excuse the outliers) http://lustrousstone.co.uk/cpg/thumbnails.php?search=pilkington&submit=search&album=search&title=on&newer_than=&caption=on&older_than=&keywords=on&type=AND
